Gameranger please wait until steam11/23/2023 ![]() The connection timeout seems to be a common issue with LAN setups when I search for it on the Internet. If that's the case, then try setting a rule in the firewall to allow incoming UDP connections from the servers IP over ports 2706. ![]() ![]() I usually never recommend turning off windows firewall, but in this case if you turn it off temporarily and it finishes connecting then there is most likely a signal from the server that's getting blocked by windows firewall. Keep using the local IPv4 and check the windows firewall on the computer connecting to the server to see if there's anything stopping a return signal from the server over UDP. It can potentially reach it now and is not getting straight up blocked, but it may not be getting a complete response back from the server to complete the connection process. Huh, okay connection timeout is definitely a step in the right direction. If they use their local IPs, the connection won't leave the network and they won't have that problem. The router would have the default "block all connections not started from inside the network" and drop the connection. If they were trying to use that IP to connect to their server, it would be blocked by the router because the connection would essentially be leaving their house, to their ISP, and back into their house. I only brought up their external IPs because it's the one you see on the start menu when you boot up the game. All they need is to be on the same network and have each other's local IPs. They also don't want to open up to the internet because it's just a LAN server. Some consumer routers have the ability to place different hardwired connections into different subnets, which I wanted to rule out first. Right now they can't even connect to the server, which indicates that they may not be in the same LAN because there wouldn't be any higher level routing blocking communication. Obviously you should have DirectPlay installed and firewalls deactivated / configured properly for it to work.First they have to check that they're in the same LAN first by pinging the computer hosting the server using their local IPs. I wonder why noone brought up this issue yet in the forums. Since I didn't find any solution to this online and found this out myself while pulling my hair out, I thought it was worth sharing. After making the configurations in Gameranger, so it's pointing to the new executable path under Edit -> Options, select the game Stronghold Crusader HD and direct it to the new folder name, it all worked. I didn't test other folder names after getting it to work. Long story short: It works if you rename/move the Stronghold Crusader folder.įor example, original installation path: "D:\GOG Games\Stronghold Crusader Extreme HD" didn't work. So I pasted the files from the Steam version over the ones from my GoG install, but it didn't help. We were all having the issues no matter the localization (some clients were German, some English, OSes all German), except for the guy on the Steam version. Everytime anyone attempted to start the game for the lobby, a Gameranger window popped up stating "Waiting for host" and a green pulsing progress bar. We've been trying to host Stronghold Crusader matches on Gameranger, but haven't been able to.
